In about a week it is time for Gran Turismo Polonia. The event that everything started with 13 years ago. From its humble beginnings, the event has become the most important super car event in the former eastern bloc. Every year, some 150 (or more) super cars and almost 300 drivers from all over Europe visit Poznan and Gran Turismo Polonia.
From year to year, the format of the event evolves. For this edition of the event, we are also making small modifications. These are the most important. Here it is - Gran Turismo Polonia 2017:
In 2016, we were almost 200 cars on the track. This was too much, creating congestion on the track and trouble with parking. For this years edition we are limiting the number of cars to 150. Racing cars are still allowed, but only under certain (very few) times on the track. Please see the event schedule for more details. This to make the event safer and more enjoyable for everyone.
We are introducing a Time Attack challenge to the event. This is called King of Gran Turismo. There are three classes, ranging from street legal cars below 520 HP to racing cars with slicks. The Time Attack is run during the lunch breaks of the event, with live timing in the lunch area. Everyone is welcome to sign up for the Time Attack challenge and become King of Gran Turismo in their class.
Gran Turismo Expo is integrated in the core event, with the display area moved to the paddock. The Expo will only be available for the drivers of the event. No external visitors.
Technical support on track is organised by Ferrari Poland. They are able to service and support all other brands too. Furthermore, our long term partner Michelin is bringing a race trailer, tires, and a team of technicians to the event. In 2016 some 240 tires where changed/sold by Michelin on the track during the event(!). This is a record for any Michelin track event attendance, ever.
Open day for the public only on Saturday, from 12 to 17. We are preparing a special program for the Saturday afternoon, with the examination, King of Gran Turismo finals and other interesting items. The public can not access the paddock or pit lane. Entry will be free of charge, and we are estimating the number of spectators on Saturday in the tens of thousands. It depends a bit on the weather.
On Friday night we will have a VIP party in Pacha club in Poznan. On Saturday night, after the gala dinner, there will be an after party in Andersia hotel for the drivers, VIPs and Dinosaurs from Poznan.
For our friends, and specially invited, we have VIP passes. A VIP can enter the paddock and pit lane, just as a driver. A VIP will also have access to the driver hospitality area and lunch. We have a very limited number of VIP passes. If we have forgot to invite you, you can request to purchase a VIP pass. Please e-mail vip@granturismo.org.
Gran Turismo Polonia 2017 has been fully booked since January. Sadly, we are not able to host any more drivers to this edition of the event. If you are a Gran Turismo driver, please request a VIP pass and come visit us on the track.
See you in Poland!
