This is an April fool's piece. Spa-Francorchamps are not banning senior drivers.
Are you 55 years or older? Starting from the next season, you might not be able to drive on Spa-Francorchamps.
The famous circuit has experienced several spectacular crashes during the last years, and is now trying to make it safer for everyone.
"Sadly, the majority of all accidents include old men", a recent press release states, and continues with "We believe the driving will be much faster and safer on the track, if we exclude senior drivers".
In 2025, Niki Lauda and James Hunt could be banned from driving on the track
Also, young drivers are under scrutiny. If you are younger than 55 years old, you might also be banned from driving in the future.
"A lot of accidents also happen with drivers younger than 55 years old. In order to make the track perfectly safe, we are entertaining the thought of banning them too, starting from 2026. It is not until have banned everyone that is above 55 years, and under 55 years old, from driving that we can have a perfect safety record".
April fools.
