SS68 Val d'Elsa to Saline di Volterra

An exhilarating and picturesque road in Tuscany

The section of the SS68 between Saline di Volterra and Val di Elsa is one of the best roads in Tuscany and in all of Italy.

You start South of Pontedera, in a small town of Saline. Head East on the SS68 and enjoy a beautiful mix of small forests where the road will be more demanding and technical, with a lot of tight and twisty turns, all the way to Volterra. The old square of Volterra which overlooks the rolling hills is a stunning vista point, and a perfect place to stop for a coffee break.

Afterwards, you continue East on the SS68 down the hill, now with a much more open countryside all around you, and a much faster and smoother driving experience. There is a fast stretch of extra wide road in this part, which is nothing short of perfect when you're in something loud and fast.

It is a mix of winding and technical sections in the first half from Saline to Volterra, followed by faster, wide and smooth sections after Volterra all the way until the end in Val di Elsa. All the while having nearly perfect asphalt under you. This is perfect for a mid-engine supercar.

This is a fairy-tale afternoon drive, traversing the rolling Tuscan hills and endless wineyards, with the sun going down behind you.
