A classic mountain pass in the south of Switzerland
This mountain pass connects Andermatt in the north with the Airolo valley in the south. There are actually three different variants on this road. You have the old cobble stone road from the peak to the valley, the modern asphalt serpentine road this page is about, and a completely new, and very long, tunnel.
As many mountain roads, things are much more fun climbing than descending. Since the Gotthard Pass connects two different levels of ground, the most fun is to go from the south to the north. The road is wide and allows for very inspired driving. Asphalt quality is almost top notch.
The scenery, especially going in the southbound direction, is amazing. At the top of the peak is a visitor centre with both restaurants and coffee shops.
A perfect companion on your next road trip to the most beautiful country in the world.
